Why New Zealand

New Zealand, the home of the Maori culture

Māori culture forms a distinctive part of New Zealand culture and, due to a large diaspora and the incorporation of Māori motifs into popular culture, it is found throughout the world. Tikanga Māori is a set of cultural values, customs, and practices. This includes concepts such as what is sacred, caring for your community, rights to land by occupation, and other relationships between people and their environment.

The Māori language is known as te reo Māori, shortened to te reo (literally, "the language"). At the beginning of the twentieth century, it seemed as if te reo Māori, as well as other aspects of Māori life, might disappear. government-sponsored schools (Kura Kaupapa Māori) began to teach in te reo, educating those with European as well as those with Māori ancestry.

CAFES

My favourites cafes in New Zealand

first cafe

Black & Gold Coffee Eatery

A lively all-day café with an outdoor terrace that serves everything you could want from breakfast and brunch to evening cocktails.

Address:

33 Triton Drive, Auckland

What I like about it

This is one of the best brunch spots in Lisbon but if you go at any time of day there will be something delicious on the menu!

second cafe

The Coffee Club Victoria Street

Everyone's favorite neighborhood cafe with a variety of breakfast and brunch options.

62 Victoria Street West, Auckland

What I like about it

It's tiny! Not always easy to get a seat but it's such a cozy little place, the food is always tasty and the staff are so friendly.

third cafe

Peoples Coffee Lukes Lane

This warm cozy cafe will take you from breakfast through to dinner with excellent coffee and locally-sourced wines.

40 Taranaki Street, Wellington

What I like about it

Just like cafe Victoria, the owners are incredibly friendly and chatty. It has the best coffee in Lisbon!
